Timex has spent the last year redefining expectations through its Swiss-made Timex Atelier collection, and the new Timex Atelier Chronograph may be the clearest expression yet of that ambition. Offered in both automatic and quartz configurations, the latest additions bring a traditionally enthusiast-focused complication to a platform that has steadily moved the historic American brand into more premium territory.

Leading the lineup is the Chronograph Automatic M1A Ti, a 42mm model built from titanium with a contrasting black-coated mid-case. The design follows the architectural language established by previous Atelier releases, including skeletonized lugs, layered case construction, and a strong emphasis on depth and proportion. A matte black dial is paired with silver subdials in a balanced bicompax layout, while a fixed tachymeter bezel reinforces the watch’s motorsport inspiration.

Beneath a double-domed sapphire crystal sits the Swiss-made Landeron L72 automatic chronograph movement, operating at 4 Hz with a 43-hour power reserve. An exhibition caseback allows a view of the movement, a detail rarely associated with the Timex name.

For those less interested in mechanical complexity, the Chronograph Quartz M1Q offers a more accessible interpretation of the same concept. Its stainless-steel case measures 40mm and retains the Atelier family’s distinctive architecture, including the black-coated central case section. The dial adds a guilloché pattern and a date display at six o’clock, while a Swiss-made Ronda quartz chronograph movement provides reliable timing functionality. Interestingly, the quartz model doubles water resistance to 100 meters, compared to 50 meters for the automatic version.

What makes these watches noteworthy is not simply their specifications but what they represent. For decades, Timex built its reputation on affordability and practicality. The Timex Atelier collection explores a different side of the brand, one focused on Swiss manufacturing, higher-end finishing, and enthusiast-oriented design. The automatic chronograph, priced at $2,250 on a titanium bracelet, ventures into territory once considered unimaginable for Timex. The quartz version, available for $800 on a steel bracelet, offers a more approachable entry point into the Atelier ecosystem.

Whether collectors embrace this evolution remains to be seen, but the Chronograph demonstrates that Timex is no longer content to compete solely on value. These new models suggest the brand intends to participate in a broader conversation about design, craftsmanship, and mechanical watchmaking—one chronograph at a time.
