Color has always been part of The James Brand’s approach to everyday carry, and the new Lumen collection makes it the unifying idea. Rather than introducing five unrelated tools, the Portland-based company gives existing designs a coordinated yellow-gold finish that looks deliberately different from conventional black and silver EDC gear.

The capsule includes the Helton multi-tool, Redstone folding knife, Elko keychain knife, Palmer utility knife, and Madison carabiner. Their shared palette ranges from warm buttermilk to polished gold, often contrasted with black blades or small red accents. That consistency makes the collection more compelling as a group than a typical single-model color update.

The designs remain distinct in purpose. The Helton packs nine functions into an aluminum-bodied multi-tool, including a VG-10 blade, scissors, drivers, and small implements. The lightweight Redstone pairs its climbing-hold-inspired grip with a Sandvik 12C27 blade, while the compact Elko adds a pry bar, bottle opener, and screwdriver to its keychain format. The Palmer handles replaceable utility blades, and the Madison separates its attachment and key-ring gates.

For a brand whose EDC accessories often treat color as part of the design rather than an afterthought, Lumen is a cohesive extension of that philosophy.
The five-piece release is available individually, with prices ranging from $49 for the Madison to $179 for the Helton.
