A football jersey number is an unlikely design brief for a high-complication watch. Yet the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Saquon Barkley Edition makes the athlete’s identity part of a complicated mechanical display rather than relying on a prominent signature.
Created with the American running back, the watch uses Moser’s Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton architecture. The fully openworked HMC 811 automatic caliber places a one-minute flying tourbillon and cylindrical hairspring in view, while a domed aventurine subdial provides a starry blue surface for reading the time. Green-glowing Super-LumiNova accents at the numerals two and six reference Barkley’s number 26.
The stainless-steel case measures 42.8 mm and carries a 120-meter water-resistance rating, unusually practical specifications for such a visually exposed complication. A white rubber strap contrasts with the dark blue dial and the movement’s metallic structure. The in-house automatic caliber has a 74-hour power reserve, with the cylindrical hairspring engineered to maintain a consistent oscillation period across different amplitudes.
Unlike the more conventional Pioneer Retrograde Seconds, this model uses the movement itself as the central design element. Production is limited to 97 pieces, referencing Barkley’s birth year.
