Inspired by years gone by, the “Rusty” watch project sought to recreate the rich amber tones reminiscent of the Azores’ climate in a customized timepiece. Using the client’s beloved Rolex 116520 Daytona® watch, the team from Artisans de Genève worked to create a customized, one-of-a-kind watch for the Artisans de Genève “Rusty” Project.
The artisans working on the Artisans de Genève “Rusty” Project created the perfect, original timepiece with honey, ebony, and amber tones blended together. Mastering a new technique, the craftsmen designed an oxidized patina aging method that gives this watch dial a trademark color. The “Rusty” dial has an aged look that reflects the ocean atmosphere of the Azores. The dial was then sent to the Azores directly to perfect the look. The Azores have the highest measured humidity globally, which was perfect for a natural maturation of the oxidized face. After sitting for ten weeks in the tropical climate, the dial had the ideal antiqued patina reflecting just the right amber shades and tones. The watch has other enhanced features besides the oxidized face, including refined luminova hands, Millerighe pushers, and hand-beveled finishes.
Artisans de Genève invites others to take inspiration from the Rusty project, creating a personalized and specialized watch. Because each watch is crafted and aged individually, expect a unique pattern and color from every piece. There is an incredibly high demand for watch customizations, so Artisans de Genève is not taking any new orders. However, those interested are invited to join the waiting list, so they can be notified when customized orders are accepted again.
