The Porsche 944 already solved the practical sports-car equation better than most coupes of its era. German specialist Carpoint has decided that it still needs more roof. The GT-K44 converts a customer-supplied 944 into a hand-built shooting brake inspired by Günter Artz’s rare 1980s 924 estate conversion.

The transformation is structural rather than cosmetic. Carpoint extends and reshapes the roof, modifies the B-pillars and rear quarters, integrates large side glass, fabricates a new hatch, and reworks the rear lighting and interior trim.

The rear bench remains, preserving the 944’s 2+2 layout while adding the long-roof silhouette. Every conversion receives a complete exterior repaint, and customers can specify wheels, suspension, exhaust, upholstery, steering wheel, and audio.

Carpoint recommends the 944 S2 or Turbo as donors. Its demonstrator uses a 3.0-liter S2 producing 211 horsepower, finished in Oak Green with a Pascha-pattern interior. Manual and automatic cars are eligible as long as the original drivetrain configuration remains intact. Each build takes several hundred hours and is treated as an individual conversion rather than series production.

The GT-K44 conversion costs €119,000 including German VAT, roughly $139,000 at current exchange rates, before the donor 944 and optional work. Builds are completed in Karlsruhe, Germany, with each car configured directly with Carpoint.
