Most whisky packaging tells drinkers what they are supposed to taste. Highland Park Between You & I by Laila Gohar does the opposite, replacing conventional tasting notes with illustrated vignettes inspired by the New York artist’s memories of Egypt, Andalusia, and a tropical volcano.

The liquid is a 17-year-old single malt and the second release in Highland Park’s Between You & I series. Master Whisky Maker Marc Watson sampled more than 80 casks before settling on spirit that spent its first 11 years in refill casks, followed by six years in highly active, unseasoned new American oak. That unusually long finish pushes orange blossom, citrus, creamy vanilla, leather, and warming spice forward while leaving the distillery’s aromatic peat smoke underneath.

Gohar’s contribution extends beyond the carton. Instead of printed flavor instructions, a booklet inside presents short scenes designed to let associations form without a prescribed answer. It is a fitting device for an artist known for turning food and table settings into surreal installations, and it gives the collaboration more substance than a signature label.

Between You & I by Laila Gohar is bottled at 47.5% ABV and natural color. The global release carries a suggested price around $160; U.S. availability is beginning in limited quantities through retailers, while Highland Park lists the new edition in its current range.
