This latest addition to the Presage lineup highlights the brand’s commitment to blending elegance with tradition, showcasing a dial crafted using the esteemed Arita porcelain technique.
Seiko’s Presage collection, introduced in 2016, emphasizes the brand’s more refined and classic side, with a strong focus on Japan’s traditional crafts. The collection includes stunning dials made from Shippo enamel, Urushi lacquer, and now, Arita porcelain. This craftsmanship series pays tribute to Japan’s rich heritage through intricate, handcrafted designs.
The Arita porcelain dials are a testament to the skill of master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and his team. The process begins with molding clay-based material to the exact shape of the dial, followed by baking at 1300 °C, hand glazing, and a second firing that brings out a subtle blue tint. The final stage involves making holes for the hands and date window, and a third baking smooths the surfaces. The result is a dial with remarkable depth and a unique “milky” appearance, distinct from traditional enamel.
The SPB445 features simple bar indexes and a 24-hour sub-dial to showcase the porcelain’s luster. Blue-toned hands and printings complement the elegant dial, housed in a 40.6mm stainless steel case with a super-hard coating and sapphire crystal. The watch is powered by the caliber 6R5H automatic movement, offering a weekend-proof power reserve.
