Seiko Star Time is a one-of-a-kind mechanical watch created for Shohei Ohtani, built not to chase conventional complications but to measure time on an unusually human scale. Presented to the baseball star to mark his 10th year as a Seiko brand ambassador in Japan, the watch began with a question from Ohtani himself: how much longer can he keep going as a baseball player?

Seiko’s answer is a wristwatch capable of displaying up to one million hours, or just over 114 years. Instead of traditional hands, Star Time uses five layered rotating discs to track cumulative time across 24 hours, 1,000 hours, 10,000 hours, 100,000 hours, and 1,000,000 hours.

The central disc also displays the current time in a 24-hour format, while diamonds set into the discs mark each full rotation. A diamond at the center represents the North Star, reinforcing the watch’s broader theme of steady progress toward an unwavering goal.

The case is made from High-Intensity Titanium and measures 41.8mm wide by 17.4mm thick, including its box-shaped sapphire crystal. The sides of the case carry lines inspired by the trajectories of stars, while the crown is set with a blue sapphire. Water resistance is rated to 10 bar, and the watch is fitted to a custom silicone strap designed for Ohtani’s wrist.

Star Time is not for sale, which makes it less a product release than a statement piece from Seiko’s development team. Still, it is a compelling reminder of what the brand can do when its technical curiosity is allowed to run beyond commercial categories.
