Seiko is expanding its Presage Classic Series with four new mechanical dress watches that draw inspiration from one of Japan’s most celebrated textile traditions. Rather than focusing on a single limited-edition model, the collection introduces an entire family of 38mm timepieces inspired by the texture, luster, and cultural significance of Tomioka silk, a material deeply connected to Japan’s historic silk industry. The release includes three regular-production references and one limited-edition model, all united by richly textured dials and a new mid-sized case that broadens the Presage lineup.
The trio of standard models explores traditional Japanese color palettes derived from silk production and dyeing. The Shironeri reference features a crisp white dial inspired by refined silk threads, while the Wakatake-Iro model adopts a vibrant bamboo green commonly associated with traditional kimono textiles. Completing the trio is the Sakura-Iro edition, whose soft pink dial references cherry blossoms and is paired with a dark brown leather strap inspired by the trunk of the sakura tree. Each dial features a flowing, layered texture designed to replicate the graceful drape of woven silk fabric, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow across the surface.
The standout of the collection is the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organization Limited Edition. Limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide, it pairs a pearl-finished white dial with a pink-gold-colored case and matching hands and markers. The warm color palette references the red-brick architecture of the historic Tomioka Silk Mill, while a dark brown leather strap reinforces the connection to Japan’s silk-making heritage. Seiko will also donate a portion of proceeds from the collection to support preservation efforts tied to the Tomioka silk industry.
All four watches share the same 38mm case, a new size for the Presage Classic Series that sits comfortably between the existing 36mm and 40.2mm offerings. Inside is Seiko’s Caliber 6R51 automatic movement, delivering a 72-hour power reserve and visible through a sapphire display caseback. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, giving the collection a level of practicality not always found in traditional dress watches.
Available beginning in July 2026, the new Presage Classic Series demonstrates Seiko’s continued ability to translate Japanese craft traditions into accessible mechanical watches. While the limited edition will undoubtedly attract collectors, the broader significance of this release lies in the three permanent additions that bring some of Seiko’s most compelling dial work into the regular collection.
