Seiko Takes the Panda Dial Literally

Seiko’s Power Design Project turns the familiar panda chronograph nickname into an actual bear-faced quartz watch.

“Panda dial” usually describes a black-and-white chronograph layout. Seiko has decided the metaphor was not literal enough. The new Power Design Project Collection 2 turns the dial itself into a panda face, complete with subdial eyes and pushers positioned like ears.

The 43mm watch uses Seiko’s 8T61 quartz chronograph movement, measuring elapsed time to 1/5 second for up to 60 minutes. Its short 44.1mm lug-to-lug dimension keeps the oversized circular case from stretching too far across the wrist, while a Hardlex crystal and leather strap keep the construction straightforward. Compared with conventional panda chronographs, the joke here is built into the architecture rather than just the color scheme.

Two versions are planned. HHK001 uses the expected monochrome palette and is limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide. HHK002 adopts pink tones inspired by a newborn panda and is limited to 2,000. Textured dials mimic fur, bamboo-leaf hands reinforce the theme, and a playful “SASAMETER” scale replaces the usual serious motorsport language. Both are splash resistant rather than true sports watches.

The collection is scheduled for release in November 2026. Seiko lists HHK002 at €590 in several European markets; U.S. pricing and availability have not been disclosed. That uncertainty makes it more collectible curiosity than easy American purchase, but the concept is unusually coherent for a novelty watch.
