Kim Gordon’s Jazzmaster Has a Heavier Side

A bridge humbucker and Jazzmaster neck pickup give Fender’s new signature guitar contrasting voices.

The most interesting part of Fender’s Limited Edition Kim Gordon Jazzmaster is not the name on the spec sheet. It is the mismatch that makes musical sense: a high-output Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 bridge humbucker alongside a Player Alnico V Jazzmaster neck single-coil.

That pairing gives the familiar offset a heavier edge without abandoning the clearer, chiming side of its character. It suits an artist whose work has repeatedly treated texture and dissonance as material worth exploring, rather than something to clean up. It also gives players a practical reason to consider the guitar beyond fandom.

Olympic White covers the alder body and matching headcap, while white pearloid blocks punctuate a rosewood fingerboard. The Modern C maple neck has a satin back, rolled fingerboard edges, and a 9.5-inch radius. A Jazzmaster bridge with Mustang saddles meets a vintage-style floating tremolo, keeping pitch movement part of the instrument’s vocabulary.

Fender has explored unusual pickup combinations before, including its Gold Foil Series. Here, the contrast is especially direct: two different pickup types in an otherwise restrained package.

At $1,099.99, Gordon’s signature model offers a recognizable silhouette with enough electrical personality to encourage something less recognizable coming out of the amplifier.
