Just in time for the first-ever Miami Grand Prix, IWC Schaffhausen and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One have created the IWC F1 Pilot’s Watch. Since 2013, the two brands have partnered, leading to almost a decade of innovative, high-quality design. The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 “Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team” watch is made in Switzerland with the aesthetics and high-performance expected from Swiss watches, the “Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team” watch is made from grade 5 titanium. This material has one of the highest density ratios of any metal and is guaranteed to be long-lasting and durable with its corrosion-resistant design. The automotive industry regularly uses titanium components in cars, so it is fitting this material spans both realms, entering into the watchmaking world as well.
The black chronograph dial is classic IWC, with a trio of subdials clustered around the day and date windows at 3 o’clock. Adding interesting visual depth to the dial are the three subdials that are slightly sunken. Against the matte black surface, the Petronas-inspired cyan hands and hour markers serve up a strong visual pop and offer impressive luminescence in low light. The case is 41mm and has a green rubber strap measuring 20.0 mm. The strap is made with the EasX-Change system, making it easy to swap out the strap with a newer strap without any required tools. The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team” watch features see-through sapphire glass on the back of the watch and is water-resistant to 10 bar.
