A holiday in remembrance of the people that have paid the ultimate price to serve and protect our country, Memorial Day also marks the end of spring and the beginning of summer. As we approach the end of May, it only seems appropriate that we finish it off by raising a glass of maibock, a light and hoppy version of the bock-style lager.
The grand daddy that started it all is the Hofbräu Maibock that dates it’s origins back to 1614. Originally a brew that was specifically made for the month of May, hence the name maibock, the Hofbräu Maibock is an archetype of the style. It’s marked by its aromatic flavor accompanied by bitterness, making it the perfect beer to welcome the warmer season.
