Audi invited a group of auto journalists to the mystical Faroe Islands to test drive the prototype 2025 Q6 e-tron Quattro and SQ6, and we aren’t envious at all… Nevertheless, the breathtaking scenery provided ample opportunity to showcase two vehicles Audi says will take the brand into a new, electric world.

The first Audi vehicles were built using the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture co-developed with Porsche. This evolution of PPE’s 800-volt architecture features new electric motors promising quieter performance with less cost and a more efficient battery pack. In addition to a 93.0-kWh battery pack consisting of 12 modules with 180 prismatic-type lithium-ion cells.

The peak charging rate is 270 kilowatts, which Audi estimates will translate to charging from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes with a target 155-mile refill in 10 minutes. If we go by the EPA methodology of calculating range, the 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron is projecting 315 miles.

The new electric motors use hairpin windings and direct oil cooling for the rotor and stator to provide a higher power density. It’s also more compact than its predecessor and lighter in weight. In the dual-motor layout, the rear motor does most of the work while the front motor stays in the background until the driver decides to activate Dynamic mode.

Another new driving feature is one-pedal driving regenerative braking, with paddles on the steering wheel to manage the force of braking. With dual-motors and Quattro all-wheel drive results in 375 horsepower from the Q6 e-tron and 482 hp in the SQ6. Boost mode provides a temporary increase to 395 and 509 hp, respectfully.

The 2025 Audi Q6-tron and SQ6 production probably won’t start until next year. But when they arrive, they’ll showcase Audi’s lighting technology, a split-headlight design with customizable daytime running lights with OLED tail lights featuring animations to warn other vehicles behind it of oncoming hazards. But, U.S. spec variants will be limited in lighting options to meet current federal regulations.
