Nothing sells cars like real-world demonstrations. For Land Rover, its reputation as a premium go-anywhere off-roader is written in all terrain around the world. One prime example is the Camel Trophy challenge hosted between 1980 and 2000. Auction house Artcurial is offering a chance to own a unique piece of Land Rover’s history in the form of a 1997 Land Rover Discovery 300 TDi Camel Trophy spec.

The Camel Trophy events put man and machine to the ultimate test of endurance, skill, and off-road prowess in navigating the harshest off-road conditions in the world. This specific Land Rover Discovery 300 TDi is one of 20 examples built in 1997 for the Camel Trophy event in Mongolia.

It left the factory with reinforced axles, transmission, and suspension. Factory equipment includes a roll cage, winches, GPS, a compass, a map reader, seat covers, and rubber mats. In addition, a kayak and two mountain bikes are mounted on the roof rack.

In 1997, this Land Rover Discovery 300 TDi took its Romanian crew on a nearly 1,000-mile excursion through the Mongolian mountains and desert. Considering its age and beyond-average use, this old Land Rover has remained in remarkable original condition. All its factory hardware is in perfect working order, and the odometer shows less than 52,000 miles.  This 1997 Land Rover Discovery 300 TDi Camel Trophy will be searching for a new home on February 3rd as part of Artcurial’s Retromobile 2023 auction.
