When Tesla began life as a relatively unknown newcomer to the auto industry, it’s first model was a two-seater roadster based on the Lotus Elise. It had the build quality of a bag of potato chips, the road presence of a squirrel, and was as exciting as a Sunday sermon. Despite its shortcomings, which even Elon Musk has admitted to, the car paved the groundwork for the well-respected electric car company that we know of today.

Fans of Tesla have been awaiting for a second-generation Roadster for quite some time and Musk has been promising one for a number of years. Finally, the wait is over as Tesla has just revealed its second-generation Roadster.

Wearing a completely bespoke design, this attractive two-door will reportedly reach 60 mph in a staggering 1.9 seconds and 100 mph in just 4.2 seconds. It will go on to clock in a quarter mile run of 8.9 seconds and hit over 250 mph. The vehicle will be able to travel 620 miles on a single charge at highway speeds, making this the most capable, fastest electric vehicle, and possibly of any production vehicle to date.

Scheduled to launch in 2020, the new Tesla Roadster will come with a hefty price tag of $200,000 with a required $50,000 deposit. For those die-hard Tesla fans, there’s also the limited-run Founders Series, which will cost $250,000, with the entire amount required to reserve.
