Oris is honoring one of baseball’s most enduring figures with the Big Crown Pointer Date Lou Gehrig Limited Edition. Based on the brand’s long-running aviation-inspired design, the watch incorporates subtle references to the legendary New York Yankees first baseman without sacrificing the clean, functional character that has defined the model for decades.

The 40mm stainless-steel case frames a deep navy dial accented with grey details inspired by the Yankees’ iconic color palette. Applied indices and cathedral-style hands reinforce the watch’s vintage sensibility, while the signature pointer-date display circles the dial’s perimeter. In a thoughtful tribute, the number 4 on the date track is rendered in blue, referencing Gehrig’s retired uniform number.

Powering the watch is Oris’s automatic Caliber 754, a Sellita-based movement that provides a 38-hour power reserve and drives both the central hands and pointer-date complication. The movement is visible through a sapphire caseback engraved with Gehrig’s silhouette and a reference to his famous farewell speech, adding a personal dimension to the otherwise understated design.
The watch is fitted with a grey-blue textile strap that subtly echoes the look of a vintage baseball uniform, while an included stainless-steel bracelet offers a more versatile alternative. Production is limited to 2,130 pieces, a figure that commemorates Gehrig’s remarkable streak of consecutive games played.
Few sports-themed watches manage to balance tribute and restraint as effectively as this one. Rather than relying on overt branding, Oris uses small design details—a single numeral, a carefully chosen color palette, and discreet caseback engravings—to create a watch that feels connected to its inspiration while remaining true to the timeless appeal of the Big Crown Pointer Date.
Priced at $2,850, it also supports a meaningful cause, with a portion of proceeds benefiting ALS research through the Lou and Eleanor Gehrig ALS Foundation.
