In 1966 Oris became one of the few Swiss makers outside the chronometer cartel to adopt a lever escapement, a development that broke free from the restrictive Swiss Watch Statute. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of that milestone, the brand has unveiled the Star Edition.

The new model features a compact 35 mm stainless‑steel case with softly barrelled flanks and a vintage‑style plexi crystal. Measuring 11.10 mm thick and 41.50 mm lug‑to‑lug, the watch wears elegantly on a variety of wrists.

The silvery dial is deliberately understated, with slender baton markers, a centre seconds hand and a date window at 3 o’clock. Luminous material on the hands and indices ensures legibility in low light. At the heart of the watch is Calibre 733, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200‑1.

It offers a 41‑hour power reserve, stop‑seconds functionality and a quick‑set date. Oris has engraved the caseback with its vintage shield logo, further emphasizing the historical connection.

Unlike many anniversary watches, the Star Edition is not a limited edition. Priced at $2,300 and delivered on a black leather strap, it will be available from May 2026. Collectors will appreciate its blend of modern construction and mid‑century charm — from the thin barrel‑shaped case to the domed plexi and unobtrusive dial.

For men seeking a dressy automatic with an authentic story, this revival encapsulates Oris’ independent spirit and its pioneering role in Swiss watchmaking history. In homage to the original, the dial retains the silvery finish with simple baton markers and a date aperture at three o’clock.

The black leather strap is supple yet sturdy, complementing the case’s curves, and underscores the watch’s everyday versatility.
