AMG no longer needs the Black Series badge to build a road-legal track weapon. The new Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung turns the CLE 53 into a hand-built, rear-drive V8 special—and limits production to just 30 cars.

It is the second model in Mercedes-Benz’s Mythos Series, following the 250-car PureSpeed, but its brief is more circuit-minded. AMG removes roughly 375 pounds from the donor car, widens the track by 2.4 inches at both axles, deletes the rear seats and acoustic insulation, and replaces numerous components with carbon fiber. A roll bar, lightweight racing buckets, adjustable coilovers, and carbon-ceramic brakes push the coupe further from a standard CLE.

The M177 EVO 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 uses a flat-plane crankshaft and produces 637 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, sent exclusively to the rear wheels through AMG’s nine-speed SPEEDSHIFT TCT and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

It reaches 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, 124 mph in 11.4 seconds, and tops out at 193 mph. Manually adjustable aero, including the front diffuser and rear wing, helps generate more than 550 pounds of downforce at top speed, while nine-stage AMG Traction Control manages rear-wheel slip with stability control switched off.
Mercedes-AMG explicitly connects the Affalterbach hand-build process to specials such as the 300 CE 6.0 “Hammer.” Pricing has not been disclosed, and all 30 CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung examples were sold before the world premiere.
