Oak can change a whisky as decisively as age. Glenfiddich’s new 28 Years Old gives that relationship a detailed workout, bringing several distinct cask influences together in a limited edition developed with Aston Martin.

Malt Master Brian Kinsman builds the single malt around whisky matured in American oak and then given a secondary maturation in virgin American oak. That fresh wood contributes spice and vanilla. European oak hogsheads seasoned with Oloroso sherry add another dimension of texture and richness, while traditional ex-bourbon casks supply the orchard-fruit character associated with Glenfiddich. The interest lies in how those components meet: a layered cask recipe gives the collaboration a substance beyond its badge.

The presentation takes a similarly constructed approach. Developed with Aston Martin’s design team, the box uses flowing forms and layered details to suggest movement across its surface. Podium Green, copper-colored finishes, and the distillery’s stag tie the two identities together without turning the bottle into a miniature car.

The whisky was laid into casks in the late 1990s, when Aston Martin’s Project Vantage concept was pointing toward the future Vanquish. That shared period gives the collaboration a more specific historical connection. Its next journey is more immediate: Glenfiddich 28 Years Old is scheduled for sale in the United States and leading international airport outlets beginning in January 2027.
