Some comeback bottles trade mostly on nostalgia. The returning Laphroaig 15 Year Old changes enough to matter: the Islay single malt is back as a permanent expression and now arrives at 46% ABV, giving its familiar smoke a little more structure than earlier 43% editions.

First released in 1985, the 15 Year disappeared from the regular lineup before making a brief anniversary return in 2015. The 2026 edition again spends 15 years in ex-American oak bourbon casks, positioning it between Laphroaig’s ubiquitous 10 Year and older premium bottlings rather than as a one-off collector release.

The profile remains recognizably coastal. Citrus, dried hay, vanilla, and clove lead the nose; smoke, sea salt, cracked black pepper, and warming spice shape the palate; peach and grapefruit carry into a long smoky finish. Compared with the distillery’s more experimental sherry-finished whisky, the 15 Year is deliberately straightforward: age, bourbon wood, peat, and higher proof.
