Heaven Hill Phoenix contains something a commemorative label cannot supply: whiskey made at the distillery it remembers. The new Heaven Hill release combines 18-year-old bourbon with 30-year-old whiskey distilled at Old Heaven Hill Springs before the fire that destroyed the original facility.

The one-time Kentucky straight bourbon marks three decades since the 1996 disaster, which consumed the distillery, seven rickhouses, and nearly 100,000 barrels. The historical connection sits inside the bottle, rather than resting entirely on its packaging.

Bottled at 107 proof, Phoenix builds its blend around 18-year-old bourbon matured in heavy-char barrels. The older component provides a direct link to the original Bardstown operation. The resulting age statement remains 18 years; the presence of older whiskey does not turn the whole blend into a 30-year expression.

That distinction gives this long-aged bourbon a clear identity. Its interest lies in the relationship between two generations of stock, not simply the largest number on the label. A phoenix illustrated on the gift carton makes the commemorative purpose explicit without changing what the age statement represents.

No employees lost their jobs after the fire, and the proprietary yeast strain survived. Those continuities give the anniversary another dimension: Phoenix recalls the people and production lineage that remained, alongside the stock that predates the loss.

Phoenix is priced at $325 for a 750mL bottle, with distribution to select markets and the Heaven Hill Bourbon Experience in Bardstown.
