Amazon Finds New Places for Alexa Around the House

A bedside clock and photo frame join familiar Echo speakers as Amazon gives Alexa a more domestic presence.

The alarm clock and family photograph are familiar fixtures of a home. Amazon’s latest Alexa lineup puts both to work, extending its voice assistant into objects that already belong on nightstands and shelves.

That approach is clearest in Echo Time and Alexa Photo Frame. The camera-free Time combines a 3.2-inch circular screen with optional sleep sensing, giving the bedside clock a gradually brightening display and smart alarms. Across the room, the 10-inch Photo Frame draws automatically from Amazon Photos, with spoken searches for people, pets, or trips. Both start at $199.99; real-wood frames cost $229.

The familiar speakers take on more responsibility, too. The $99.99 Echo Dot gains a smart-home hub and an extender for existing eero networks. At $249.99, Echo Studio with Home Camera pairs Dolby Atmos and room-adaptive sound with remote viewing and visual assistance. Music remains central, but the speaker can now help identify what is held in front of it.

Those shared household functions converge on Echo Show 16. Its 16-inch Full HD screen moves between calendars, photographs, smart-home controls, and built-in Fire TV, expanding the family dashboard idea. Preorders start at $499.99, or $569.99 with Nanomatte, with a $100 launch discount.

Kids versions of Dot and Time start at $109.99 and $209.99, including a year of Kids+. Across the range, certain features require Alexa+, included with Prime.
