Apple held its latest ‘Unleashed’ event today and among the product announcements was the reveal of the Apple AirPods 3. Compared to its predecessor, the AirPods 2, these new AirPods have a lightweight, contoured design and sit at just the right angle for comfort and to better direct audio to the user’s ear. Furthermore, the stem is 33 percent shorter and includes a force sensor to easily control music and calls. One of the more significant updates from Apple is the inclusion of an adaptive EQ system to optimize sound quality. This means that the new AirPods are tuned to suit the shape of the user’s ear; inward-facing microphones detect what users hear, then adjust low- and mid-range frequencies to deliver the rich details in every song.

The Apple AirPods 3 look a lot like the company’s premium AirPods Pro but do not offer active noise canceling. The new AirPods include a wireless charging case with MagSafe, all-new “custom” drivers, spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, and “HD voice quality” for FaceTime. The new case provides 30 hours of total playback time and Apple has improved the battery life, so they now last up to 6 hours on a single charge instead of 5 at moderate volume levels, and five minutes of charge will give users nearly an hour of use. And importantly, they’re sweat- and water-resistant with an IPX4 certification. The Apple AirPods 3 can be preordered now and will ship on October 26th.
