Audi unveiled another reason to doubt a Tesla Model S purchase with the impending release of the 2022 Audi E-Tron GT. Like its cousin, the Porsche Taycan, the Audi E-Tron GT is a fully-electric long-wheelbase luxury sedan. Born at the intersection of luxury and performance, the E-Tron GT is an electric vehicle built to be a grand touring sports luxury sedan. Compared to Tesla, the Audi E-Tron GT exterior design has more flavor than homemade gumbo. The E-Tron’s face looks like it left the factory wearing war paint with body lines that go-with-the-flow down a swooping fastback roofline. The car sits low to the ground, ready to pounce at the slightest hint of throttle input. The new Audi E-Tron GT offers a leather-free interior with seats made from recycled PET bottles. Genuine leather interior is an available option.
The 2022 Audi E-Tron GT is available in two variants, the entry-level GT Quattro and the hotter RS E-Tron GT. Both vehicles use a dual-motor setup, with each one assigned to power the front and rear wheels powered by a 86 kWh battery pack. The standard (North American spec) Audi E-Tron Quattro is rated at 469 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. The sportier RS model offers 590 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque. Both variants feature an over-boost function that adds a significant power increase. Audi claims the estimated range for the standard E-Tron GT is 238 miles and 232 miles for the RS. Audi even gave the E-Tron a voice using exterior and interior speakers to produce engine noises unique to the E-Tron that the driver can control. Audi will start accepting orders for the 2022 E-Tron GT in the summer of 2021 to deliver in 2022.
