The release of the 40mm limited edition UNIMATIC U1S-FAI accomplishes something special: each watch purchased from this limited run of 200 pieces helps support the non-profit Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (FAI) – the National Trust for Italy, for the rest of us.
FAI promotes education, appreciation, and awareness of Italy’s environment, landscape, and artistic heritage. Some would argue that UNIMATIC has been contributing to that heritage since the original Modello Uno debuted back in 2016, so this partnership is a natural fit for the microbrand, right down to the special message of support engraved on the screw-down caseback. Each watch is individually numbered and includes an FAI membership card.
UNIMATIC’s color scheme here is inspired: the aluminum minimal diver insert and NATO strap, both in FAI-green, complement the FAI-orange nylon keeper. The time itself is displayed on a galvanic black dial with hand-applied white numbering. Water resistant to 300 meters, the double domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal ensures light conditions will never interfere with actually seeing what time it is. The U1S-FAI is powered by the Sellita SW200-1 and also sports a 38-hour power reserve, but why you’d ever take it off is beyond us – unless it’s to swap to the Modello Quattro.
