Mercedes-AMG brought back the S63 nameplate for 2023. Moreover, this time it’s sporting an E Performance badge to signify that it’s an AMG-powered plug-in hybrid. That means a 400-volt electrical system backs the big luxury sedan’s twin-turbocharged V8 to generate some serious power.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance hybrid drivetrain packs a combined output of 791 horsepower and 1,055 lb.-ft of torque. As a result, Mercedes-AMG claims this land yacht can sprint from zero to 60 in 3.2 seconds and onward to a top speed of 180 mph! On its own, the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 603 horsepower and 664 lb.-ft of torque using a nine-speed automatic transmission to feed its power to an all-wheel drive system.

Meanwhile, the electric motor and 13.1-kWh battery pack are mounted on the sedan’s rear axle and paired with a two-speed transmission controlled by an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. This electric motor continuously generates 94 horsepower but can kick it up to 188 for ten-second intervals. Air suspension and adaptive dampers help keep the AMG S63 E Performance riding like a cloud, while standard rear-wheel steering helps the big car be nimble on its feet.

For 2023, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance features a new grille design with vertical slats and a new front bumper with large air intakes. At the back, the rear diffuser includes four trapezoidal tailpipes. In addition, rolling on a set of 21-inch wheels. As for the interior, the S-Class is decorated with an AMG-branded steering wheel, upholstery, and seat stitching. The car’s infotainment system also features specific AMG hybrid graphics. Pricing for the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance will be unveiled closer to its availability in 2023.
