LEGO and Koenigsegg are celebrating the arrival of the new Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear with a launch that goes far beyond the traditional product reveal. Alongside the highly detailed 1:8-scale building set, the two companies unveiled a fully drivable, life-size replica that recently set a speed record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Together, the projects demonstrate how far LEGO’s engineering ambitions have evolved, blurring the line between model building and automotive design.
The centerpiece for collectors is the new LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear, a 4,104-piece model that faithfully recreates the Swedish megacar’s advanced mechanical architecture. Builders assemble a functional V8 piston engine, a nine-speed transmission complete with a rotating gear indicator, and front and rear Triplex suspension systems inspired by the setup found on the real vehicle. At more than 23 inches long, the finished model ranks among the most sophisticated automotive sets in LEGO’s current lineup.
One of the most distinctive features is a working version of Koenigsegg’s signature “Ghost Mode.” By activating a hidden mechanism, owners can simultaneously raise the rear clamshell, open the company’s trademark dihedral synchro-helix doors, lift the hood, and fold the mirrors. It is an unusually theatrical feature for a Technic model and a reminder that Koenigsegg’s engineering often embraces a sense of occasion alongside performance.
To mark the launch, LEGO pushed the concept even further by constructing a full-scale Sadair’s Spear from 327,906 LEGO elements. Weighing approximately 4,000 pounds and reinforced with an internal steel structure, the drivable replica incorporates working lights, a functional cockpit, and a full-size interpretation of the same Ghost Mode system found in the production car and the Technic set.
Rather than remaining a static display piece, the life-size model was driven up the famous Goodwood hill climb by Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh, reaching 111 km/h (69 mph). The run more than doubled the previous speed record for a LEGO vehicle and transformed what could have been a marketing exercise into a convincing demonstration of modern LEGO engineering.
The Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear will be available to LEGO Insiders beginning July 1, with a broader release following on July 4. Priced at $449.99, it joins LEGO’s growing collection of large-scale automotive collaborations, but few arrive with a supporting act as memorable as a full-size counterpart capable of setting records.
For automotive enthusiasts, the combination of intricate mechanical detail, functional features, and a real-world engineering showcase makes this one of LEGO’s most compelling vehicle releases in recent memory.
