For years, the LEGO Architecture series has translated some of the world’s most recognizable landmarks into compact display pieces. The new LEGO Architecture Sagrada Família takes a dramatically different approach. At 12,060 pieces, it becomes the largest LEGO set ever released by piece count, transforming Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished Barcelona masterpiece into one of the most ambitious building projects the company has ever attempted.

The timing is fitting. The release coincides with the centennial of Gaudí’s death and arrives as the real Sagrada Família enters the final stages of a construction journey that has spanned more than 140 years. LEGO’s model is designed to capture both the scale and spirit of the basilica, recreating its soaring towers, intricate façades, and remarkably organic forms in brick-built form. Rather than simplifying the structure into a stylized silhouette, the design team appears to have embraced its complexity.

One of the most impressive details is the treatment of the basilica’s stained-glass windows. LEGO developed colorful interior effects that mimic the way sunlight filters through the real building, creating shifting hues throughout the model. The set also recreates the Nativity, Passion, and Glory façades, along with the central towers that define Barcelona’s skyline. Once assembled, the model stands approximately 24 inches tall, making it a genuine architectural centerpiece rather than a shelf accessory.

The Architecture theme has historically focused on accessibility, but the Sagrada Família embraces the opposite philosophy. This is a project intended for experienced builders willing to dedicate dozens of hours to construction. The scale rivals some of LEGO’s most ambitious Icons releases while remaining firmly rooted in architecture and design. In many ways, it feels less like a toy and more like a physical study of one of the most influential buildings ever conceived.

For architecture enthusiasts, the appeal extends beyond the finished display piece. The build process itself offers a rare opportunity to understand the structural logic behind Gaudí’s vision. That may be the set’s greatest achievement. Rather than simply reproducing a landmark, it invites builders to engage with one of architecture’s most enduring works from the inside out.
