Cartoon characters rarely make the transition to grown-up furniture without becoming novelty merchandise. The new Disney x Gustaf Westman collection tries a different approach, translating familiar silhouettes into sculptural objects rather than printing faces on ordinary products.

The Swedish designer’s 35-piece project draws on Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. Early previews include a black leather sofa shaped around Mickey’s recognizable ears, alongside ceramic cups and a tumbler that use Westman’s exaggerated curves and rounded proportions. The range will extend beyond furniture to glassware, accessories, and apparel, with more designs being revealed in stages.

Here, cartoon imagery becomes a study in volume and material rather than applied graphics. A sofa has to function as seating even when its outline references an animated character; a cup still has to work in the hand. That tension gives the project more design substance than conventional designer-led furniture collaborations. The larger made-to-order pieces also place the work closer to collectible design than mass-market souvenirs.

The collection will appear first at pop-ups in Paris, Tokyo, and New York, followed by online sales on November 15, 2026, at 6 p.m.
Central European Time. U.S. pricing for individual pieces has not been confirmed on the designer’s consumer store.
