‘가상현실’이라 하면 자동적으로 게임과 연결짓는 사람들이 많겠지만, 독일회사 하이브는 특이하게도 피트니스와 가상현실을 더해보았다. 제품 사진만 보면 스타워즈를 경험할 수 있을 것 같은 극강의 가상현실 게임 컨트롤러같이 생겼지만, 그냥 피트니스 기구이다.
VR 헤드셋을 쓴 채로 팔, 다리를 얹고 엎드린 자세로 기구 위에서 몸을 움직이고 균형을 맞춰가며 운동 효과를 극대화시키는 방식이다. 글로 이렇게 풀어서 써 놓으니 진짜 재미없는 플랭크 자세와 별다를게 없을 것 같지만 실제로는 우주, 숲을 자유자재로 날아다니느라 당신이 뭘 어떻게 칼로리를 소모하는지 신경 쓸 겨를이 없을 정도로 재미있을 것이다.
크라우드 펀딩으로 자금을 마련한다고 하니, 집 안에서 우주를 누비고 싶다면 십시일반 모아서 도움을 주도록 하자.

Icaros, a new fitness and gaming device currently under development by a German innovation company called HYVE, hopes to be the cure for your laziness. People at HYVE call it bodytainment because it’s fun – while allowing you to get your workout on, Icaros will allow you to discover space or explore the Amazons through your VR goggles. You’ll have to control your flight path with the movement of your body while maintaining balance, a feat that will burn calories and simultaneously train your shoulders, back, abs, and core.
HYVE plans on launching a crowdfunding campaign to bring this unique product sometime this summer. You may not even realize how much of a workout you’re getting when stuck in virtual flight because it’s too enjoyable – just like Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay might have said, “Virtual Insanity is what we’re living in.”
