The ‘Eternals’ Final Trailer: MCU’s Latest Superhero Epic

The final trailer for the movie gives us not only our best look yet at the Eternals and their powers, but also their rivals the Deviants.

Slated to hit theaters on November 5th, Marvel Studios has just dropped the final trailer for the superhero epic, Eternals, which is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. With an exciting new team of characters added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals spans thousands of years and features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, the Deviants. While the first Eternals teaser was rather light on plot, this final trailer for Chloé Zhao’s superhero film gives us the best look yet at not only the Eternals and their powers, but also their rivals, the Deviants.

As the trailer opens, we see the plot taking shape with Salma Hayek’s character, Ajak, explaining to Richard Madden’s Ikaris, “Five years ago, Thanos erased half of the population of the universe. But the people of this planet brought everyone back with the snap of a finger. The sudden return of the population provided the necessary energy for the emergence to begin.” How long do they have to save the planet? “Seven days.”

That sets up the plot of the movie, as does Gemma Chan’s Sersi telling Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, a.k.a. The Black Knight, that the Eternals came to Earth 7,000 years ago to protect humans from the no-good Deviants. As for why they didn’t help the Avengers in the fight against Thanos, let alone centuries of war, she explains, “We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved.” Cut to Eson the Searcher. From there, we’re treated to a putting-the-team-together montage and snippets of action-heavy set pieces. Eternals also stars Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena, who can form any weapon out of cosmic energy.
