DYU has introduced the SP1, a 20-inch folding e-bike built around a removable battery that doubles as a portable power bank. The arrangement addresses two familiar compromises of compact electric bicycles: carrying the machine and finding a practical place to recharge it. The battery can be taken indoors independently of the frame, while its charging ports allow it to power phones and other small devices between rides.

The aluminum frame uses what DYU describes as 3D forging technology and folds to approximately 27.6 by 17.7 by 24.4 inches. A three-second folding process is intended to make transitions between riding, public transportation, and storage less cumbersome. DYU lists the frame at 30.9 pounds without the battery or optional fenders, however, so that figure should not be treated as the complete ready-to-ride weight. The company has not published the battery’s individual weight or a total equipped figure.

Propulsion comes from a 250 W brushless motor paired with a 24 V, 5 Ah LG lithium-ion battery. Pedal assistance operates up to approximately 15 mph, while a torque sensor measures pedaling force and adjusts motor support accordingly. This should produce a more proportional response than a basic cadence sensor, particularly during starts and stop-and-go urban riding. The specification also includes 160 mm disc brakes and a stated charging time of three to four hours.

That multiuse battery gives the SP1 a different design logic from long-range folding machines such as the Colibri M22, which emphasizes multiple swappable packs and off-road capability. The SP1 is a leaner urban proposition, using smaller wheels, a compact frame, and a removable power module to support mixed commutes and limited storage.
DYU promotes the bicycle as suitable for airline travel, but the battery requires more consideration than the folded frame. Its 24 V and 5 Ah rating equates to 120 Wh, exceeding the 100 Wh threshold commonly applied to lithium-ion batteries carried without prior approval. Some airlines permit batteries between 101 and 160 Wh in carry-on baggage with authorization, while others impose stricter rules. The carrier’s current policy would therefore need to be confirmed before travel.
The SP1 is listed through DYU’s online store in Europe at €1,299, reduced from €1,499. The product page also advertises the SP100 promotional code for an additional €100 reduction, potentially bringing the price to €1,199. U.S. pricing, specifications, and retail availability have not been announced.
Its most persuasive feature is not outright speed or range—the latter remains absent from the published specifications—but the way its removable battery continues to serve a purpose after the bicycle has been folded and parked.
