Compact hi-fi works best when small does not mean closed. Yamaha’s new WXA-70A amplifier and WXC-70A preamplifier return MusicCast to a low-profile format while leaving room for televisions, turntables, subwoofers, and existing speakers.

Both components support AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Qobuz, Tidal Connect, multi-room playback, and Roon Ready operation. HDMI eARC makes either model useful in a living-room system, while optical, analog, and auxiliary inputs handle older sources. Each includes a calibration microphone for Yamaha’s YPAO room correction, a feature more commonly associated with full-size receivers.

The WXA-70A adds Class D amplification rated at 55 watts per channel into 8 ohms with both channels driven, rising to 105 watts per channel into 4 ohms (20Hz–20kHz, 0.06% THD). The slimmer WXC-70A functions as a network streamer and preamplifier, adding RCA, optical, and coaxial outputs for an existing amplifier or active speakers.

Both sit in rigid aluminum enclosures and include subwoofer outputs, remote controls, Control4 compatibility, an IR input, and a 12-volt trigger. The approach resembles other compact streaming amplifiers but separates powered and source-only use cases instead of forcing one chassis to cover both.

Yamaha will offer the components in black and silver beginning in November. The WXC-70A costs $999.95; the amplified WXA-70A is $1,299.95.
