Hiking boots have spent years borrowing speed from trail runners; Salomon’s latest barely hides the source. The Salomon Genesis Mid GORE-TEX translates the character of the Genesis running shoe into a lightweight, mid-cut design for full-day hikes.

Its synthetic-and-textile upper surrounds a waterproof GORE-TEX membrane, with a gusseted tongue and protective toe cap helping keep water and trail debris outside. Salomon’s one-pull QuickLACE system replaces conventional laces, preserving the streamlined appearance associated with the brand’s running footwear.

Underfoot, an optiFOAM midsole uses lightweight EVA to provide what Salomon classifies as “ultra plush” cushioning. The activeCHASSIS structure adds guidance while retaining agility, and an All Terrain Contagrip rubber outsole is designed for wet, dry, hard, and loose surfaces. The shoe has an 8 mm drop, with stack heights of 31 mm at the forefoot and 39 mm at the heel.

At 14 ounces per shoe, the Genesis Mid sits closer to athletic footwear than traditional backpacking boots. It develops the trail-focused logic of the Genesis trail runner with a higher collar and weather protection suited to longer, less predictable days outside.

Salomon lists the Genesis Mid GORE-TEX in Olive Night, Black, and Dark Navy colorways for $210. The U.S. product page currently identifies the shoe as coming soon and accepts registrations for release notifications.
