The Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar “Lumen” takes two of the manufacture’s most revered complications—the stop‑seconds tourbillon and instantaneous perpetual calendar—and packages them in a limited run of just 50 pieces in 950‑platinum.
True to the architecture introduced in 1994, the off‑centre dial configuration remains intact, yet the proportions and execution are anything but traditional. A semi‑transparent sapphire dial reveals the black‑coated month ring, luminous outsize date, day‑of‑week and moon‑phase discs. At night, the luminous coating glows in green, so the calendar indications can be read long after the lights go down.
Beyond the theatrics of light, the watch demonstrates thoughtful engineering. The newly developed, self‑winding calibre L225.1 integrates a stop‑seconds mechanism that halts the tourbillon for precise setting and includes a peripheral month ring that jumps instantaneously at each month’s end.
The moon‑phase display incorporates a day/night indicator and is accurate to 122.6 years. A large barrel and efficient winding system deliver a 50‑hour power reserve. Finishing is typical Lange: German silver plates with perlage and solarization, hand‑chamfered bridges and blued screws peek through the sapphire case back. With a 41.9 mm platinum case and black alligator strap, the piece balances heft with refined ergonomics.
As an edition limited to 50 watches, it offers collectors a rare blend of technical mastery and contemporary aesthetics.
