In their comic book series The Secret Service, creators Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons gave the classic James Bond-style spy genre an update for a new generation, telling the story of a master of international espionage who has recruited his young nephew into the trade. This comic book was successfully translated to the silver screen in 2014 with the Matthew Vaughn film Kingsman: The Secret Service.
The material was a perfect match for the kinetic directing style of Vaughn, who had previously directed the successful superhero films Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, not to mention the gritty crime thriller Layer Cake. Kingsman: The Secret Service built upon the inventive narrative thread of the original comic book series with amazing action sequences and outstanding performances by Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Samuel L Jackson, and Michael Caine.
If the second trailer is any indication, the upcoming Kingsman sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle may outdo its predecessor in both size and spectacle. Although the trailer leaves the specific plot of Kingsman: The Golden Circle something of a mystery, it leaves no doubt that the Secret Service is back to save the world once again.
Both Taron Egerton and Colin Firth return to reprise their former roles amid a number of new characters played by A-list actors such as Channing Tatum, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, and Jeff Bridges. Adding to the film’s British authenticity, Sir Elton John even appears to play an exaggerated version of himself!
