Insta360 is raising the bar for pocket-sized content creation with the new Luna Ultra, a compact gimbal camera developed in collaboration with Leica. The partnership, six years in the making, combines Insta360’s expertise in stabilization and computational imaging with Leica’s renowned optical pedigree, resulting in one of the most ambitious handheld cameras in the category.

At the heart of the Luna Ultra is a 1-inch sensor paired with a Leica Summicron lens, enabling 8K video capture at 30fps with 10-bit Dolby Vision color. A secondary 1/1.3-inch telephoto camera adds up to 6x lossless zoom, giving creators greater flexibility without sacrificing image quality. For still photography, the system captures 37-megapixel images with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, positioning it as a capable hybrid tool for both video and photo workflows.

Stabilization is handled by a three-axis mechanical gimbal working alongside Insta360’s latest software suite. Deep Track 5.0 automatically identifies and follows subjects, adjusting framing and zoom in real time to keep them centered in the shot. The detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen doubles as a wireless remote, allowing operators to monitor and control the camera from up to 66 feet away.

Despite its advanced hardware, the Luna Ultra remains highly portable. Weighing just over 7 ounces, it slips easily into a jacket pocket or small camera bag. A 1,550mAh battery delivers up to four hours of runtime, while 47GB of onboard storage can be expanded via microSD cards up to 1TB.

The Luna Ultra also integrates seamlessly into professional editing workflows, with support for Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro alongside Insta360’s AI-powered editing tools. Priced at approximately $770, the Luna Ultra is aimed squarely at creators who want flagship image quality and sophisticated stabilization without carrying a full-size camera setup.
