G-SHOCK has just unveiled the GWS5600U-1 Carbon Fiber Light in the U.S., a model previously exclusive to Japan. Priced at $250, this watch is a pleasant surprise for G-SHOCK enthusiasts stateside. Initially launched in Japan in 2021 as a successor to the 2010 GW-S5600-1, the GW-S5600U-1 boasts several modern upgrades, including an LED backlight, adjustable light duration, and a customizable date format.
The G-SHOCK GWS5600U-1 is a standout variant of the GW-M5610U-1, featuring Tough Solar power and Multi-Band 6 auto radio time adjustment. Its racing-inspired design incorporates a carbon fiber insert band and titanium exterior parts, such as the case back, buttons, and buckle. These materials enhance durability and reduce the watch’s weight to a mere 47 grams, making it 5 grams lighter than its predecessor. The visible carbon fiber layer on the band and the slightly translucent dark bezel add to its distinctive look.
G-SHOCK’s DW series has been a global favorite since the DW-5000 debuted in 1983. It is known for its robust case, attractive design, and multifunctionality. The GWS5600U-1 retains the classic G-SHOCK aesthetic while incorporating advanced materials. Developed in collaboration with Mizuno Technics, carbon fiber is strategically placed within the resin and metal elements to enhance tensile durability. Titanium is used for the back cover, side buttons, and latch, chosen for its lightweight yet rugged nature.
Highly shock-resistant and water-resistant up to 200 meters, the GWS5600U-1 is powered by Tough Solar and features Multi-Band 6 connectivity. This unisex watch combines the timeless appeal of the original 1980s model with the modern allure of carbon fiber, making it a must-have for both G-SHOCK collectors and newcomers alike.
