G-SHOCK Gives The G-LIDE A Fitness-Focused Upgrade

Casio’s G-SHOCK G-LIDE line has always been built around life near the water, combining the brand’s signature toughness with surf-focused functions. The new GBX-H5600 expands that formula by adding a heart-rate monitor, training analysis, sleep tracking, and a sharper digital display, turning the seaside-ready G-LIDE into a more complete fitness watch for surfers, runners, and everyday athletes.

The watch retains the familiar square G-SHOCK profile but gives it a more modern presentation through a translucent resin bezel. The see-through design reveals portions of the internal structure beneath the tinted material, while solid black or blue bands keep the overall look grounded. Casio also uses carbon fiber-reinforced resin for the center case and case back, helping reduce weight while maintaining the durability expected from the G-SHOCK name.

At the center of the GBX-H5600 is a high-definition MIP LCD, a useful upgrade for a watch designed to show more than just the time. The full-dot display allows tide graphs, workout data, notifications, and daily tracking information to appear with greater clarity than a conventional digital screen. That matters for a G-LIDE model, where quick readability is essential whether checking wave conditions, tracking a run, or reviewing training data between sessions.

The fitness functionality is where this model separates itself from earlier G-LIDE references. A built-in heart-rate monitor tracks exercise intensity in real time, while an accelerometer supports step counting and distance measurement. When paired with a smartphone, the watch can use GPS data for more precise distance calibration. Casio also integrates training and sleep analysis powered by Polar, including metrics such as Running Index, Cardio Load, energy used, and Nightly Recharge.

Smartphone Link connectivity expands the watch’s usefulness beyond workouts. Through the Casio Watches app, users can configure tide graph settings for approximately 3,300 points worldwide, manage watch settings, sync training and life log data, receive notifications, and use automatic time adjustment. The watch also includes world time, an almanac with sunrise and sunset times, moon age, a stopwatch, countdown timer, four daily alarms, vibration alerts, airplane mode, and a full-auto LED Super Illuminator.

The GBX-H5600 remains a proper G-SHOCK at its core, with shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance. It also uses USB charging for power-intensive functions like heart-rate monitoring, step tracking, and notifications, while solar-assisted charging keeps basic time display running when the battery is low. Key resin components in the bezel, case, and band are made with bio-based resin, adding a more responsible material story to the technical package.

With the GBX-H5600, Casio has created a G-LIDE that feels less like a simple surf watch and more like a rugged training companion. It still delivers the tide information and water-ready toughness that define the line, but the added health metrics, Polar-powered analysis, and improved display make it better suited to men who move between the beach, the gym, the trail, and daily life without wanting a fragile smartwatch on their wrist.
