If you live in New York City, the shutdown of the L train is a big deal. A key component of the New York subway system, the L train has passed through the Canarsie Tunnel for a decade. However, this tunnel fell prey to Hurricane Sandy in 2012, experiencing severe damage when the structure was flooded with millions of gallons of surging storm water. Although the extensive rehabilitation of the Canarsie Tunnel has recently been downgraded from 18 months to 15 months, this construction project remains a massive inconvenience to New York City commuters.
Before the project begins in April 2019, New York City’s Brilliant Bicycle Company is helping to rescue local residents from impending transportation doom by offering a peddle-powered alternative to the inoperative L train: the L Train City Bike. This bike is specifically constructed for urban use, but you certainly don’t have to be communing from Brooklyn to Manhattan to own one.
The bedrock of the L Train City Bike is a double-butted chromoly-tested frame/fork that meets all specifications of the European Committee for Standardization. For maximum convenience, this incredibly lightweight frame comes complete with mounts for rear/front fenders, racks, and baskets. The Train City Bike also features a grease-free Gates carbon drivetrain that withstand thousands of miles without requiring service.
