Starting today, the Air Jordan 2 Low x Off-White White and Varsity Red sneakers are hitting the shelves. Nike says this newest edition from Off-White designer Virgil Abloh takes its inspiration from the heritage and impact of Air Jordan history. Then Abloh adds his personal touch to the legendary line that debuted in 1986 with Air Jordan 2. The company says Air Jordan 2 was the first sneaker that combined luxury detail and peak sports performance. So, the collaboration with Abloh began with a question— what would it look like to pull an Air Jordan 2 out of a time capsule?
Nike and Abloh reverse-engineered the Air Jordan 2 Low x Off-White White and Varsity Red sneakers from an original pair — with a cracked midsole. They used Nike’s DNA Archive and three-dimensional scans of a laced-up pair of the original Air Jordan 2. Since no two sneakers crumble the same way, each pair is unique. That means even the left and right feet of each pair of the Air Jordan sneakers have a different cracked midsole to maintain accuracy. These Air Jordan 2 sneakers boast an Off-White zip-tie and Michael Jordan’s signature is in a random spot on each pair, recalling the days when he would autograph sneakers for his fans.
