Hyundai has unveiled details on the high-performance variant of the Elantra compact sedan. While not a traditional hot-hatch, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N sedan offers so much more than an appearance package. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 276-hp and 289 lb.-ft of torque. Buyers can choose an eight-speed wet dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

Standard equipment on the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is purpose-built to go fast. Such as an electronic limited-slip differential dubbed by Hyundai as the N Corner Carving Differential. In addition, the 2022 Elantra N comes equipped with launch control with several drive modes. Setting the car to N Grin Shift Mode increases the turbo’s boost pressure to increase the engine’s power output to 285-hp. In this setting, the Elantra N is capable of reaching 60 mph in 5.3-seconds.

Hyundai developed a WRC rally-inspired front drive axle that integrates the Elantra N’s driveshaft, wheel hub, and bearing to improve lateral grip while reducing weight. The suspension can be adjusted electronically and features four-point strut rings and stiff bars at the rear to strengthen the Elantra’s body to improve high-speed handling.

It will be hard to confuse the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N with a base or hybrid variant. The Elantra N does not hide its added performance. At the front is a bespoke blacked-out grille and fascia featuring air guides to improve cooling for the front brakes. A dash of red on the Elantra N front and rear splitter is the first clue that this is no ordinary Hyundai. At the back, the Elantra N sports a dual-tip exhaust with a fixed rear wing. The Elantra’s sharp and dynamic body lines are highlighted with bespoke wheels and side skirts. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is a contender.

Inside, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N offers drivers an N Sound Equalizer. This audio system can produce engine sounds that mimic a TCR race car and is adjustable. The car’s digital instrument cluster will include added information like oil temperature and turbo pressure levels. The front seats are equipped with extra bolstering to hold you in place. Buyers can also opt for sporty bucket seats that sit 10-mm lower than stock. Official details on the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N relating to pricing and release are set to be announced later in the year.
