Smart #2 Brings the Two-Seat City Car Back

Smart returns to its roots with a 108-inch EV, 180-mile WLTP range, and a turning circle built for dense streets.

A city car earns its keep by wasting as little street as possible. The new Smart #2 returns the brand to that original brief with two seats, rear-wheel drive, and a footprint measuring just 108.1 inches long.

The production model follows the Concept #2 while softening its show-car details for daily use. Round taillights, a floating roof, frameless windows, and the familiar split tailgate retain the Fortwo’s visual logic.

The cabin pairs an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, round air vents, and a practical mounting point for personal devices. Cargo capacity starts at 10.8 cubic feet, an unusually useful figure for something this short.

Underneath is Smart’s Electric Compact Architecture, a deliberate reversal from the larger electric lineup that has defined the brand’s recent growth. A rear-mounted motor produces 82 horsepower and 96 pound-feet of torque.

The 35.8-kWh LFP battery delivers an estimated 180 miles on the WLTP cycle and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes at 65 kW. Its 22.8-foot turning circle matches the original Smart, while a five-link rear suspension adds more substance than most microcars offer.

European sales are planned for 2027 in Pure, Pure+, Premium, and 999-unit Couture Edition forms. Official pricing and U.S. availability have not been announced.
