If you want to get a true gauge of just how rare something is, all you need to know is how many of them there are. In the case of the 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster, only six vehicles were ever made, stemming from 12 prototypes. And if you’re an automotive enthusiast, now’s your chance to own the very first one that’s ever been built (and the only one to remain original and in existence). Yes, the first Roadster ever built is now available on a “price upon request” basis from a British seller.
Though very limited, the Ford GT40 has a place in automotive lore thanks to its racing roots. The vehicle was specifically conceived when Henry Ford II opted to build a new kind of race car to compete with those that participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Hence, the Roadster was born, raced and then largely forgotten about. In fact, all the other Roadsters that were built have been either discarded or modified – except for this one, which you can purchase in all of its original glory.
It features a blue interior, steel chassis (one of only four Roadsters that can boast that) and was even once driven by F1 World Champion racer Jim Clark. This Roadster has it all – exclusivity, nostalgia and a great story behind it.
