Although an engineering masterpiece and a true sports car with four doors, the first generation Porsche Panamera was almost universally panned as one of the most visually challenged cars on the road today. Despite it’s appearance being more akin to that of a beached whale, it sold like hotcakes, solidifying Porsche’s reputation and financial status. Now on its second generation, Porsche has unveiled its new Panamera in Berlin, and looks like they have remedied its biggest shortcoming.

The new Porsche Panamera sports a similar profile to its predecessor, but with sharpened lines that feel much more cohesive. The interior design gets an upgrade as well; gone are the busy button-laden layout, which has been updated with a much more simplified dash that features the new Porsche Advanced Cockpit. Engine wise, it will have a top of the line V8 turbo that produces 550hp, a 440hp V8, a V8 diesel with 420hp, and two performance oriented plug-in hybrid versions in the near future. All Panameras will features a new 8-speed PDK system that has been derived from Porsche’s racing program.

Officially the fastest four-door sedan in the world, the Panamera’s hallmark has been its sporting credentials that betray the car’s size and weight. Now with a new design that can back up its sporting aspirations, looks like Porsche has another massive success in their hands.
