Oak barrels play a major role in the production of wine. The delicate flavors of wine or whiskey can mostly be attributed to the time it spends in oak barrels, which can take years or even decades. We’ve seen products that attempt to speed up this process while adding a bit of oaky-goodness to your less than stellar spirits, like the Time & Oaks Whiskey Elements, but none that envelopes the whole liquor in oak, until now.
The imaginatively named Oak Bottle is the brain child of Joel Paglione. His family’s winery business has given him the first hand knowledge to re-think how wine is aged in barrels. Instead of large barrels that take longer to age, he created a small personal oak barrel that accelerates the aging process so any sub-par to average spirit can achieve its full potential.
One major concern that people may have with such a delicate device is reusability. However, Oak Bottle is confident that their bottles are fast enough to assure that the content of the bottle will not saturate the charred oak inside, only requiring a rinse to reuse over and over.
Set out to be a pioneer in custom aged wine, the Oak Bottle seems like a good way to educate our pallets of the niceties in life without straining our paltry paycheck.
