While hanging out in his backyard at night, Brooklyn-based industrial designer Ravi Varma realized that there was no portable outdoor light that could truly meet his needs. He began to think about all of the times that he had been disappointed with portable lanterns while gathering around campsites and picnic tables with friends. Bulky, unattractive, and based on outmoded gas-based technology, these lanterns seem like relics from a bygone age. They also shine glaring light in all directions, reducing visibility and creating an environment that is anything but easy on the eyes. Even portable outside lighting that incorporates battery and LED technology tends to emanate harsh, blue light that feels both cold and unnatural.
After two years of work and dozens of prototypes, Ravi has created what he is billing as “the perfect portable light.” The MESA looks like no other light because it operates like no other light. Lightweight and fully retractable, this product is exceptionally easy to pack, transport, set up, and tear down.
Thanks to a unique design that incorporates a set of sleek and sturdy legs, the MESA can shine pleasantly warm LED light downward on any surface or object. MESA features long light strip with space for 40 LEDs to illuminating the surrounding area without shadows or glare. A beautifully simple device, it is available in both matte sliver and matte black anodized finish.
