If you enjoyed films like Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and especially Fantastic Mr. Fox, you’re in for a treat. Wes Anderson is returning with another quirky stop motion animated film, Isle of Dogs.
Dog flu outbreak hits futuristic Japan, whose government decides to quarantine all dogs in an exile colony on a trash island. A group of dogs named Rex, King, Duke, Boss, and Chief meet a 12-year-old boy who hijacks a plane and crash-lands on the island to find his lost dog. They decide to help him, because dogs can’t help loving 12-year-old kids.
We follow the dogs and boy on a journey, in all its Wes Anderson-esque symmetric glory, filled with lovable characters, quirky landscapes, and charming music, fighting through authoritarian regimes and mean adults. The film features an excellent cast of voices, including Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Scarlett Johansson, and more. Isle of Dogs will hit theaters in March 2018.
