Portable audio has matured to the point where desktop-grade performance no longer requires a permanent place on a desk. At High End Vienna 2026, iFi Audio underscored that shift with the introduction of the iDSD GR2, a compact DAC/headphone amplifier engineered for listeners who expect reference-level sound wherever they happen to be.

Housed in a precision-machined aluminum chassis, the iDSD GR2 combines a dual-DAC architecture with iFi’s longstanding Burr-Brown implementation, supporting PCM files up to 768 kHz and native DSD512 playback. The company’s Femto-precision clocking technology is designed to reduce jitter and preserve low-level detail, while a fully balanced output stage provides enough power to drive demanding full-size headphones without sacrificing refinement.

Despite its audiophile credentials, the GR2 is built around flexibility. USB Type-A and S/PDIF inputs allow it to connect with laptops, tablets, digital audio players, and other source devices, while USB-C charging powers an internal battery rated for up to eight hours of playback. A selectable gain control and iEMatch circuitry further broaden compatibility, allowing the unit to work equally well with highly sensitive in-ear monitors and power-hungry planar magnetic headphones.
The GR2 also reflects iFi’s broader ecosystem approach. It integrates seamlessly with components such as the NEO Stream and ZEN series, enabling users to transition from a portable setup to a more comprehensive home audio system without changing platforms. That versatility has become increasingly important as enthusiasts look for equipment that can adapt to multiple listening environments.
Rather than chasing novelty, the iDSD GR2 focuses on delivering serious audio performance in a package that travels easily. In a market crowded with portable DACs and headphone amplifiers, iFi’s latest offering stands out by balancing technical capability, thoughtful design, and everyday usability.
